As per information provided by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 7,970 cases and 18,879 cases were pending for trial in various courts under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 at the end of 2014 and 2015 respectively. The Ministry has been requesting the States/UTs from time to time to set up Special Courts under POCSO Act for speedy disposal of cases.
As per information provided by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), conviction rate of 41.9% (858 cases convicted out of 2,049 cases in which trials completed) was reported under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, 2012 during 2015.
The Ministry has issued Model Guidelines under section 39 of the POCSO Act,2012 in September 2013 for use by experts to assist a child during pre trial and trial stage.
