People depositing hard-earned money in banks, not black money: Kejriwal

New Delhi
Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that Rs 5 lakh crore has been deposited in banks since the demonetisation, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Tuesday that the amount comprised the hard earned money of the common people and not black money.

"How much of that (Rs 5 lakh crore) is black money? All of it is the hard-earned money of the common people. Not even a single paisa out of it is black money," Kejriwal tweeted in response to a tweet by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which quoted Modi as saying that more than Rs 5 lakh crore has been deposited in banks.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has been maintaining that the November 8 demonetisation is not aimed at curbing black money but is the "biggest scam of independent India, involving Rs 8 lakh crore".

Kejriwal has demanded roll back of the demonetisation of 500 and 1,000 rupee notes announced on November 8 by the government.
