Union Government to launch National Resource Centre Vanjeevan for Tribal Livelihood

Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with UNDP and National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) will launch “Vanjeevan” the National Resource Centre for Tribal Livelihood issues at Bhubaneswar, Odisha on December 22, 2016. Jual Oram, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs will preside over the launch ceremony. NRC website and e-knowledge platform on tribal livelihood will also be unveiled on the occasion.

This will be followed by a workshop on Skill development and entrepreneurship landscape in tribal areas, Livelihood mapping; skill gap analysis- Farm, Non Farm and Forest based and Skill and Enterprise Promotion in Farm and Forest-based Livelihood on December 23, 2016. Eminent experts and senior officials of Centre and State Governments including Dr. Hrusikesh Panda, former Union Tribal Secretary and Dr. N C Saxena, former Secretary, Planning Commission will attend the workshop.

Key Facts 
  • Vanjeevan in the first phase will identify the problems in livelihood issues in select districts of six states having low Human Development Index (HDI) of tribal people. 
  • The programme will focus on the identification of local resources, keeping in view the existing skill level. 
  • It will facilitate utilization of funds under various Government programmes for the above purpose. It will be implemented in Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha and Telangana in the first phase.
  • In the second phase the programme will be implemented in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and Tripura.
